The executive management team from former competitor Avalon will be taking over the operational reins at the Spirit Nightclub in New York, owned by Robbie Wootton, beginning July 28. The team will be headed up by veteran nightclub promoter and producer John Blair. In his new role as executive director, Blair will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the club.
Blair brings a number of key personnel from his Avalon team including Co-Promotional Directors Fedor Banuchi and Sorin Abraham. Banuchi has been promotional director for the Avalon Group for over eight years. Abraham has more than 10 years experience at varied nightclubs such as Tunnel, Limelight and Palladium. Rounding out the promotional team is Adam Splinis, who will work in marketing and promotions. Also joining is John Ketabchi, who previously managed Plaid. The new security team will be commanded by John Dabrowski and Adam El- Asha.
Upcoming events include Jonathan Peters' "Underwear Party" (August 5), DJs Boy George (August 12), Christopher Lawrence (August 19) and Max Graham (August 27). The first Latin party will begin on July 28, and John Blair's Gay Sundays will launch on July 31. A concert series presented by Miller Beer is also planned, featuring live performances by acts such as Cypress Hill and Talib Kweli. –Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
