Veteran Jazz Agent Bennett Morgan Dies


HOPEWELL JUNCTION, NY (CelebrityAccess) — Bennett Morgan, a longtime and influential jazz agent who worked with artists such as Dave Brubeck, "Dizzy" Gillespie, and Stan Getz has died. He was 85.

According to Variety, Morgan died on May 31st in in Hopewell Junction, N.Y. He was 85 at the time of his passing.

A native of Philadelphia, Morgan trained and worked as a pharmacist before moving into the entertainment world, launching Bennett Morgan Agency in the late 1960s.

Initially, Morgan represented a broad spectrum of acts including rock and comedy acts, but narrowed his focus to jazz while he was a principal at the Sutton Artist Agency in New York City, Variety said.

In 1989, he ventured out on his own again, launching Bennett Morgan & Associates, Ltd. and representing artists such as Eartha Kitt. Diane Reeves, and Rosemary Clooney.

He retired from his professional life in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Becky, children Rob, Guy, Eve, Ted, Bunney, Brandon, and Brigitte, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorial donations be made in Bennett’s name to the Hudson Valley Youth Jazz Orchestra. – Staff Writers
