WHEELING, WV (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Six weeks after torrential downpours caused serious flooding in various parts of the arena, repairs are well under way. According to the arena’s head of operations, Dennis Magruder, the arena sustained approximately $40,000 in damages from the flood. "The water was coming up through the ground. It was so saturated," he told the Wheeling News-Register
Certain areas of the arena were covered in up to 18 inches of water due to heavy rains that fell from September 17-19. Doug Campbell, the operations manager for WesBanco, broadcasted a plea for to the community at around 11:00pm on the 17th. "It was just incredible. We had people coming from everywhere," Campbell told the Register. Volunteers helped surround the building with sandbags and move equipment to higher ground.
The venue, which was already undergoing a multi-million dollar reconstruction when the rains hit, had only a few scheduled events that needed to be cancelled, though building was shut down for nine days. Since the reconstruction has continued the arena has reopened for weekly civic club lunches as well as other events. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
