(CelebrityAccess) As the weekend wrapped, three performers were either cooperating with grand juries or facing them in the near future.

Jussie Smollett, actor on the television show “Empire” and oft-times live music performer, will have his case heard early next week by a grand jury, law enforcement sources told TMZ. Meanwhile, a grand jury has been convened to hear evidence against R. Kelly in the wake of a new sex tape that reportedly shows him having sex with a 14-year-old girl. Also, details of a plea deal that rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine reached with a grand jury has likely reduced a potential 47-year-minimum prison sentence.

Smollett, who filed a police report claiming he was attacked in Chicago under racially motivated circumstances, has been under scrutiny in past days after two men allegedly have told police that they were paid by Smollett to fake the attack. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the two men are under the watchful eye of the police so that no one can get in touch with them, especially Smollett.

The “Empire” actor said he was attacked in January by two men who told him “This is MAGA country,” called him racial epithets and proceeded to pour bleach on him and put a noose around his neck. Sources told TMZ that investigators were not convinced the attackers screamed what they allegedly did because, “Not a single Trump supporter watches ‘Empire.'” Police also grew suspicious when Smollett took them to the scene of the alleged crime, pointed to a camera and said he was happy the attack was on video. Unfortunately it was pointing in the wrong direction but police were suspicious that Smollett knew there was a camera there.

The two men were arrested at O’Hare Airport and were armed with three warrants for each, one to seize their phones, according to TMZ. Police raided their home and found magazines with pages torn out and are now trying to determine if the pages were used to send a threatening letter to Smollett eight days before the attack. After the arrest, Smollett said he knew the men and declined to sign complaints.

Meanwhile, sources connected with the Cook County State Attorney’s investigation of R. Kelly said some of his alleged former victims may be the reason why a grand jury has been formed so quickly after attorney Michael Avenatti delivered a sex tape to prosecutors. Avenatti said the tape clearly shows Kelly having sex with an underage girl and women were brought in to watch the tape to confirm its location and the identity of the 14-year-old. The tape and possible witnesses may be enough for a grand jury to indict, according to TMZ.

Finally, Tekashi 6ix9ine, who pleaded guilty to racketeering, conspiracy, firearms offenses, narcotics trafficking and other crimes, has apparently cooperated with the feds and testified before the grand jury involved with his case and, in return, will likely receive a reduced sentence and witness protection. The U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York agreed “not to prosecute [69] for the crimes set forth in the Counts One through Nine” and the plea deal says, “It is understood that the defendant’s cooperation is likely to reveal the activities of individuals and the witness protection may be required at a later date.”

It is possible that 6ix9ine’s 47 years or more in prison could be reduced to the teens and maybe even less, according to TMZ.
