Bumbershoot Prepares For 35th Year


The 35th annual Bumbershoot, Seattle’s award-winning
arts festival, will feature four days of more than 2,500 artists on
over 20 stages and venues, showcasing music, film,
comedy, spoken word, dance, visual arts, theatre, performance arts,
literary arts, and more.

One of America's largest urban arts festivals, Bumbershoot takes place in the heart of the city at Seattle Center during Labor Day weekend, September 2-5, 2005. Bumbershoot is produced
by One Reel, a Northwest non-profit arts, cultural, and special events organization.

The complete roster of artists and the daily schedule grids for
Bumbershoot 2005 will be available online beginning Friday, July 15 at the festival’s website, www.bumbershoot.org.

John Wesley Harding & Friends: Songs of Misfortune,the world premiere
of his novel (written under the name Wesely Stace) in musical form; The
SKIN Project by Shelley Jackson with Super Genius Tattoo; The Vis-à-Vis
Society; Swivel Presents: The Indiscretions Road Show; BumberSlam
Invitational with guest Beau Sia; Wayzgoose! by The School of Visual
Concepts; Poet Populist! and so much more, including readings and
workshops involving many aspects of language and the written word.

Comedy:
Aziz Ansari, Todd Barry, Mike Birbiglia, Andrew Donnelly, Greg
Fitzsimmons, Flight of the Conchords (a.k.a. Jemaine Clement and Bret
McKenzie), Paul Gilmartin, Jackie Kashian, Howard Kremer, Eugene
Mirman, Patton Oswalt, Craig Robinson, and Nick Swardson will perform
on the Comedy Stage.

Theater & Performance:
Acclaimed poet and performer Marc Bamuthi Joseph presents World Becomes
Flesh,his original evening-length choreo-poem written in the form of a
narrative verse play and accompanied by live music; Meredith Monk in
concert with Theo Bleckmann and Katie Geissinger, plus intensive
programming from Theatre Puget Sound, and more!

Dance:
Renowned and innovative New York City dance visionaries STREB, plus
Seattle’s own Wade Madsen, and Buttrock Suites!

1 Reel Film Festival:
The 10th anniversary of the 1 Reel Film Festival featuring the world
premiere of David Russo’s new film,commissioned by One Reel andfilmed
during last year’s Bumbershoot festival, plus hundreds more of the best
short films of all genres from all over the world.

Visual Arts:
Flatstock 7 – a full-scale exhibit and vending festival of the best in
poster art from around the globe; The Art of Modern Rock poster
exhibit; In Resonance sound art exhibit with curators Fionn Meade
(Artist Trust) and Rob Millis (Climax Golden Twins); Miyooon;
Re-contextualized Vistas: Concerning Place – artists from Eastern
Washington; Raw & Refined: Working with the environment with curator
Jess Van Nostrand; and Outside In with curator Kate Seekings and
featuring artists from the Dorkbot group.
