WILKES-BARRE (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Starting this week, the arena at Casey Plaza will be operating under the aegis of a new name, Mohegan Sun Arena.
The new moniker comes as a part of a new 10-year naming rights deal where Mohegan Sun agreed to pay Luzerne County Convention Center Authority a total price of $2,375,000, the Citizen's Voice newspaper reported.
The 10,000 seat arena, which originally opened ten years ago under the name Northeastern Pennsylvania Civic Arena and Convention Center, was known until recently as the First Union Arena, however the prior naming-rights agreement with Wachovia expired on January 20th.
The arena will continue to be managed by SMG but Mohegan Sun President and CEO Robert Soper hopes that the growing chain of Mohegan Sun venues in the Northeast will create some synergy.
"Hopefully, we will provide a little leverage with our entertainment contacts in Connecticut and there should be some exciting announcements throughout the year of all the great acts that will be coming to the arena." Mr. Soper said. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
