BELFAST, Ireland (CelebrityAccess) — Irish energy company SSE Airtricity has acquired the naming rights to Belfast's Odyssey Arena, which will see its name changed to SSE Arena Belfast.
The financial terms of the teen year deal were not disclosed, but the Irish News reports that the agreement was likely to exceed £3 million.
The venue, which first opened in 2000, also announced plans to shutter for a major refurbishment, including the replacement of ll the seating, flooring and decking, as well as installing a new sound system and introduce chip and pin technology as well as an upgraded wi-fi network.
"This deal sets out our stall not just to be the best arena in Ireland or Europe, but the world," Odyssey Trust chief executive Robert Fitzpatrick told the Irish Times.
He added: "The SSE Arena Belfast will benefit from the shared vision SSE has with the Odyssey Trust of delivering world-class live entertainment to the people of Northern Ireland, along with our many international visitors."
SSE Airtricity also has sponsorship deals with venues such as the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland and the SSE Arena Wembley, in London. – Staff Writers
