LOS ANGELES (Hypebot) –
"As of today, 250 million people are using Facebook to stay updated on what's happening around them and share with the people in their lives," wrote co-founder Mark Zuckerberg on the company's blog. "The rapid pace of our growth is humbling and exciting for us, and it affirms that people everywhere are realizing the power of staying connected to everything they care about on Facebook.
The quarter billion mark means 50 million new users signed up in the last 90-100 days, and continues the pattern of strong increases that saw Facebook surpass MySpace for the first time in monthly visitors in June.
But despite Facebook's gains, according to an informal poll Hypebot readers still believe, though sometimes reluctantly, that MySpace is an essential part of any marketing music plan. Only 23% said they we're migrating their efforts to Facebook entirely while 33% said that MySpace still ruled music and another 44% saying that a presence on both social networking sites was essential.
