Famed Providence Club Lupo's To Re-Open As The Strand

PROVIDENCE, RI (CelebrityAccess) — After going dark for two months while undergoing a quiet and comprehensive overhaul, the legendary Providence nightclub Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel is reopening in September with a new moniker — The Strand.

Located at 92 Washington Street in downtown Providence, the club has been fitted with a new stage, new dressing rooms, upgraded sound and lights, refurbished bathrooms and VIP areas.

As well, Lupo's Jack Reich told CelebrityAccess that the City of Providence just signed off new electronic marquee on the front of the building, increasing its visibility.

The newly-refurbed Strand will feature a capacity of 1,300 for the main floor, or up to 2,000 balcony open.

"It’s going to be great in there – for the bands and fans," Reich said.

Shows lined up for the Strand this fall include 311, Third Eye Blind, Bastille, Descendents, and Squeeze.

Lupo's which originally opened in 1975 and gone through three incarnations, has been a fixture of the New England music scene for decades.

“There was a lot of energy, craziness on the dance floor. A great party vibe,” Tom Keegan, a veteran musician who has played in a number of bands that performed regularly at Lupo's said in a 2015 interview with the Providence Journal. “It was a combination of everything, the guys working the door, the bartenders, the crowd. Everybody was on the same wavelength. It was a love of music. Everyone was there because they wanted to be around music.
