MUMBAI, INDIA (CelebrityAccess) Spotify opened an office in Mumbai, India last year according to documents submitted to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
However, there is no information on when Spotify would launch it services in the country.
Amazon Prime Music is expected to make a full rollout soon in the country. The service is available in a limited capacity to the Indian Echo users.
It won’t be an easy way in a price conscious market in India for either Spotify or Amazon Prime Music as the music streaming segment in the country is already buzzing with local players such as Saavn, Airtel, and Gaana which has 50 million active monthly users, as reported in December 2017.
India is, of course an important music market, but the country also has very spotty internet connectivity, and tackling legal issues with the dominance of major labels and dealing with regional diversity will be hurdles.
