MINNEAPOLIS (CelebrityAccess) Live Nation has struck a deal to book Minneapolis’ Armory, aka the city’s newest venue.

Make that the newest permanent venue. The Armory is an 83-year-old structure that was most recently a parking garage that has been converted into an 8,000-capacity venue by developer Ned Abdul and Nomadic Entertainment Group. The latter company actually built two venues in time for this year’s Super Bowl festivities. The first, a temporary structure at Mystic Lake Casino, ran into some stumbling blocks and didn’t reach the finish line.

The other, the converted Armory that is is built to last, did, and presented Super Bowl concerts by Pink, Imagine Dragons, and Kelly Clarkson, followed by Judas Priest.

“The Armory made a strong first impression,” the Star-Tribune wrote. “Its 65-foot arched ceiling and sand-colored, art-deco facade made for a visually dramatic setting when the stage lights lit it up, sort of like an airplane hangar mixed with a Smithsonian museum.

The Armory remains an open building, Live Nation noted. It is also the backdrop for Prince’s “1999” video and Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.”

“The Twin Cities has been lacking a great mid-size hall and the Armory fills that gap perfectly,” said Jason Wright, President of Live Nation Midwest.  “With sight lines and amenities that are unmatched in the Midwest, music fans will marvel when they see a show in this space.”

“We look forward to delivering a constant stream of top talent to the city of Minneapolis and working with artists in leveraging our state of the art renovations to push the limits of their performances while providing an exceptional experience for fans,” said Abdul.
