LITTLE SARASOTA BAY, Fla. (CelebrityAccess) Dickey Betts, founding guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band, is scheduled for brain surgery after a “freak accident” at his home in Little Sarasota Bay, Fla., Monday.
Betts, 74, was in his backyard playing with the family dog when he “slipped and cracked his head,” according to a statement, causing “bleeding from the brain.”

The singer and songwriter of “Ramblin’ Man” was treated at an undisclosed hospital and is scheduled for brain surgery Friday to relieve swelling. He is listed in critical but stable condition, according to longtime manager and friend David Spero.
The incident closely follows a “mild stroke” Betts suffered at his Sarasota home and had to cancel tour dates.
“It was just a few days ago that Dickey was telling me how excited he was to get back in front of the fans on November 1,” Spero said. “It is very unfortunate, for all involved, that we need to cancel those shows. Please add Dickey into your thoughts and prayers.”
