PHILADELPHIA (CelebrityAccess)– The City of Brotherly Love honored hometown hero Patti LaBelle by renaming a section of a city street after the R&B legend.
According to Philadelphia ABC affiliate WPVI, the City renamed a section of Broad Street between Locust and Spruce Street as Patti LaBelle Way.
LaBelle, who was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, attended a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, which was thronged by her fans, some of whom had been waiting since before dawn.
She thanked her fans for their support. “Philadelphia, gosh,” said LaBelle. “So many people have walked this street, from Philadelphia, all over the world,” LaBelle told the audience.
She then performed a seemingly impromptu rendition of her hit “Love, Need and Want You.”
