DMV Music Alliance Launches Career Development Program

WASHINGTON, DC (CelebrityAccess) – The DMV Music Alliance has announced its partnership with Barry Coffing – music industry trailblazer and founder of Springboard Festivals, Music Supervisor, Sustainable Artists and WeGet Artists – to ring in 2025 with a music business Career Development Program. This workshop series and regular networking events will foster opportunities for musicians and music professionals. Starting January 7, the year-long workshop program will be hosted online and in the DC area. It will give participants the tools to build the foundations of a music industry career.

Each month, the workshop will highlight different aspects of the music industry. January and February will focus on financial management in the music business, including planning, budgeting, bookkeeping, taxes, and fundraising. The intention behind kickstarting the workshops with finances is to encourage artists to begin the year with improved financial habits and new perspectives on utilizing limited time and funding – normalities in the music business. March and April will feature booking gigs, performing, and organizing festivals, and May and June will concentrate on marketing.

Coffing will commence the series on January 7 with a workshop on sync licensing and music placement in film and television. The second workshop, set for January 20, will be led by Elin Melgarejo, a jazz artist and founder of Eloquis Solutions. It will detail tools for improving money management and bookkeeping. Paul Marengo, CEO of Promethean Fundraising, will close the month with a session on grant writing and fundraising.

Dani Weymouth, Executive Director of the DMV Music Alliance, said via a press release, “I am thrilled to be able to kick off our career development program with a partnership with Barry and launching other music business initiatives throughout the year with him and other organizations.”

The Career Development Program will include regular networking events, speakers, and an online learning and networking hub. It will allow music professionals to foster connections and creativity with like-minded individuals.

Participants will gain insight and guidance to further their careers as music professionals. The workshops are free, but donations are encouraged. They will be available nationwide via Zoom.
