OKLAHOMA (CelebrityAccess) — Former "American Idol" finalist Rickey Smith was killed on Thursday when he was involved in a multi-car accident on a highway in Oklahoma.
According to TMZ, Smith, 36, was traveling on I-240 just outside Oklahoma City when he reportedly encountered a driver traveling in the wrong direction who hit Smith's vehicle head-on. Police told said that the other driver was hospitalized and charged with DUI.
Smith appeared on the second season of singing talent competition American Idol, finishing in eight place behind Ruben Studdard, who would win that season of the competition.
Smith was best known for his performance of Earth Wind and Fire’s hit “Let’s Groove” on the show while wearing a giant afro wig. – Staff Writers
