NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — R&B icon Lionel Richie will be named a Legend of Live at the this year's Billboard Touring Awards.
Richie, formerly the frontman of the Commodores, has gone on to a storied solo career, notching up numerous #1 hits and selling more than 100 million records over the course of his career.
"Though he has received countless awards for his albums and songs, Lionel Richie has never been honored specifically for his contributions to live music, so we are thrilled that Billboard will be able to do just that at the Billboard Touring Awards in November," said Billboard's Ray Waddell. "Mr. Richie is an international superstar whose talent transcends musical trends. His fans span generations, and he is committed to making his live shows the best possible experience, and, as such, he personifies a Legend Of Live."
The Legend of Live award honors artists and industry figures who have made a significant contribution to live performance. Previous winners include The Allman Brothers, agent Frank Barsalona, promoter Michael Cohl, Rush, Elton John, and numerous others.
The award ceremony, set to be held Nov. 20 at The Edison Ballroom in New York City, is a part of the annual Billboard Touring Conference & Awards. – Staff Writers
