In what may be record time for such a large production budget, "The Producers" is now in the black returning its initial $10.5 million investment just seven months after opening on Broadway. Most such productions never make money, and none have done so in under a year.
"I don't know if that's a record or not," says Tom Viertel, one of the show's producers, "but nobody's complaining." Robert F.X. Sillerman, the former SFX founder, is also one of the many investors.
