NEW YORK CITY (CelebrityAccess) — Rapper DMX is headed back to jail after failing drug tests, a violation of the conditions of his probation which he received after pleading guilty in December 2017 to one count of tax fraud.
According to TMZ, DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was taken into custody in a Manhattan court Tuesday after he allegedly tested positive for opiates, cocaine, and oxycodone.
The New York Daily News reported that Judge Jed Rakoff ruled that Simmons was a flight risk, and that he had tried to accommodate DMX’s tour schedule, but that Simmons still failed a drug test, left a treatment program and failed to travel with a drug counselor as he’d pledged to do.
Following his arrest, it is likely that Simmons will remain in custody until his March 28th court date, which will force him to miss several upcoming concerts, including shows at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY on Feb 2nd; and the Watsco Center in Miami on March 9th.
As well, DMX was booked for two more shows, at least one of which he was likely to miss anyway due to an apparent double booking. DMX was due to perform as a part of a package with Ja Rule, Ashanti and Jadakiss at Santander Arena on March 3rd with the show starting at 8 pm EST, and he was booked to perform on the same day at the Republik in Honolulu with the doors opening at 10 PM.
