LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Universal’s ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ opened at #1 in 48 international markets this weekend, generating an impressive $151.1 million in worldwide box office revenue, according to figures compiled by comScore.

“Jurassic World’s” international box office results for its debut was the biggest opening weekend for the franchise, and should be soothing news for Universal studio execs ahead of the movie’s North American debut in less than two weeks.

Directed by J. A. Bayona in his first foray into the world of summer blockbusters, the movie is the fifth for the franchise and features Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B. D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum reprising their roles from previous entries into the ‘Jurassic’ canon.

Meanwhile, “Ocean’s 8” a heist comedy topped the box office in North American theaters. Featuring a female-led ensemble cast, including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter, the Ocean’s 8 follows the format established by Steven Soderbergh original three movies in the franchise. Directed by Gary Ross, “Ocean’s 8” cleared $53.7M worldwide and $41.5M in North America for its debut weekend.

Disney’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ continued to chug along over the weekend, drawing closer but not quite going over the $2bn mark for cumulative revenue. Over the weekend, “Avengers” added another $17.7M worldwide, bringing it to $1,998,033,699 worldide, according to estimates compiled by comScore.
