FORT WORTH, Texas (CelebrityAccess) — In what is likely to be welcomed news for some touring musicians, air carrier American Airlines announced that it was dropping its oversize bag fees for musical equipment.

Effective May 21st, customers are able to check common oversize sports and music equipment as standard baggage, up to the maximum allowed dimensions and within the weight requirements.

Previously, checking an oversized instrument on an American Airlines flight would cost as much as $150 per flight.

According to the airline, checked instruments will still toward a customer’s $30 dollar normal baggage allowance and are still subject to additional allowances/restrictions, including destination, class of service, or “elite status.”

American Airlines implemented the change in bag policy due to feedback from customers and airline employees, the company said.
