NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Musical icon Neil Diamond will be the focus on a new biographical Broadway production.
The show, which has yet to be given a title, will be penned by Anthony McCarten with Tony-winner Michael Mayer attached as director.
The musical will chronicle Diamond’s life, starting as a young boy in Brooklyn through his ascent to become one of the most recognized performers and songwriters in the last century.
The show will also feature music drawn from across Diamond’s long career, including many of his greatest hits such as “Sweet Caroline,” “America,” “Song Sung Blue.”
“I’ve always loved Broadway,” Diamond said in a statement. “The inspiration for many of my early songs came from shows like West Side Story, My Fair Lady and Fiddler on the Roof, so it seems only fitting to bring my songs to The Great White Way. I’m honored and excited to be working with this great team.”
