$40K Payout In Aussie Nightclub Attack

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A patron successfully won almost $40,000 in damages from The Beat nightclub in Australia’s Fortitude Valley after an altercation left him without his four front teeth.

Gavin Ryan – who claimed the injury temporarily snuffed out his love life – had sued the owners of the club, Ann Street Holdings Pty Ltd, for more than $100,000 over the assault by bouncer Vaivasa Aperu, according to The Courier-Mail.

The bouncer was acquitted of criminal charges over the incident in 2003, according to the paper.

Aperu allegedly lured Ryan back into the club after closing time to help with an unruly patron. Aperu then punched him in the unprovoked attack, according to court papers. Ryan, 33, said the loss of teeth and his temporary dentures made him socially reclusive and embarrassed around women.

The owners were ordered to pay a total of $37,452 in damages, $14,500 of which will cover the fitting of permanent replacement teeth. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
