LAS VEGAS (CelebrityAccess) — Taylor Swift ruled the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, winning eight different awards and bringing her lifetime total to 20, overtaking Garth Brooks, who has 19, as the artist the most wins in the history of the Awards show.
Swift's eight trophies included the awards for top artist, top Billboard 200 artist, top Hot 100 artist, top song, and fan-voted artist achievement award. Swift also won top Billboard 200 album for “1989” and top female artist.
Following Swift, were Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea and Pharrell, who each won three awards. Enrique Enrique Iglesias, Jason Aldean, One Direction, John Legend and Hozier each took home two awards.
Swift also used the awards show as a platform to debut her new music video "Bad Blood" which featured numerous female models and actresses cast as villians against the heroine that Swift portrayed. Women making cameos in the video with Swift included Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Mariska Hargitay, Ellen Pompeo, Jessica Alba, Ellie Goulding, and Hayley Williams.
Hosted by Chrissy Teigen and Ludacris, the awards took place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. The night featured performances by Kayne West, Mariah Carey, Pitbull & Chris Brown, Fall Out Boy & Wiz Khalifa, Van Halen, Ed Sheeran, Tori Kelly among others. Not all of the performances went as well as others. Kanye's performance was introduced by his sisters-in-law Kendall and Kylie Jenner who were greeted by audible boos from the audience. West, during his subsequent performance was almost completely obscured by smoke and glare from the pyrotechnics and plagued by mic problems.
Despite this, the 2015 Billboard Music Awards was the highest rated in 14 years with an average of 11.1 million viewers for the three hour show. – Staff Writers
