Creative Artists Agency is now representing Violator, an urban entertainment company which encompasses music management, a record label, a film and television department and a lifestyle marketing division. It is also representing Violator artists Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes in motion picture, television and music, and in their marketing ventures.
Since its inception in 1990, Violator has been a leading force in urban entertainment. The company has sold an average of 10 million records a year for the past six years, managed the careers of platinum-selling artists and successfully marketed hip-hop to a mainstream audience. It was Violator’s urban marketing expertise that moved Busta Rhymes beyond appearing in ads for Mountain Dew on urban radio and into mainstream television commercials and magazine ads and strategically placed Missy Elliott as the headliner in Reebok’s “It’s a Woman’s World” television campaign.
“When we started this company, we knew that we wanted to branch out beyond the traditional way that urban music is sold and rappers are marketed. Supporting that ambitious philosophy, CAA will bring our clients new and far-reaching opportunities to act, direct a movie or create a television series,” said Violator partners, Chris Lighty, Mona Scott and Todd Moscowitz, in a joint statement. “CAA has a deep understanding of entertainment’s impact on the cultural landscape. They get what Violator is about, and what we aim to achieve.”
