Conductor Seiji Ozawa Fractures Hip, Cancels Concerts

MATSUMOTO, Japan (CelebrityAccess) — Conductor Seiji Ozawa has canceled a series of performances at the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in Japan after suffering a fractured hip.

A statement released by the festival said that the 79-year-old former conductor of the Boston Symphony fractured his hip in a fall on August 1st and is currently undergoing physical therapy in a hospital.

American conductor Gil Rose will replace Ozawa for the three concerts set for Aug. 24, 27 and 29.

Festival organizers said that Ozawa still plans to conduct his 80th birthday concert on Sept. 1, and another on Sept. 6. – Staff Writers
