Download Festival To Pay Tribute To Lemmy

LEICESTERSHIRE, UK (CelebrityAccess) — The UK rock and metal festival Download, is honoring the late Lemmy Kilmister by renaming their main stage after the Motörhead frontman, and adding a musical tribute to the fallen rocker the festival. Before Kilmister's passing, Motörhead had been on the bill to perform at the festival in 2016.

Kilmister, an iconic figure in the world of rock, died on December 28th at the age of 70 of complications from cancer.

"Whilst we’re saddened to say Motörhead will no longer be performing at this year’s Download Festival, we will honour a true rock ‘n’ roll icon who inspired so many others on the bill, Lemmy Kilmister. For one year only, Download Festival’s Main Stage will be named ‘The Lemmy Stage’ in tribute to a much loved and missed legend. We are working with Motörhead’s management on a tribute to the great man during the slot he would have performed on, more information to follow," Download organizers wrote in a post on the festival's website.

The festival, which takes place this year from June 10-12, is held on the grounds of Donington Park, Leicestershire, north of London. In addition to the Lemmy tributes, the festival has announced a spate of new artists for this year's bill, including Jane's Addiction, NOFX, Alien Ant Farm, Periphery and Nikki Sixx's band Sixx:A. – Staff Writers
