George Michael Tops British Album Charts

LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Almost a year after his unexpected passing, British pop star George Michael is ruling the UK album charts with the re-issue of his 1990 hit "Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1

According to Music Week, the reissue sold more than 58,000 copies in its debut week, making it the top-selling re-issue in UK chart history. The original, which hit the charts in September 1990, eventually sold more than eight million copies worldwide.

The reissue was bolstered by Sony Music, Channel 4 and BBC Worldwide who partnered in a new film "George Michael: Freedom" which recounts the making of "Listen Without Prejudice" as well as Michael's famous court case against Sony and the loss of Michael's partner Anselmo Feleppa, a Brazilian dress designer who died in 1993 after an AIDS-related brain hemorrhage.

Directed by George Michael, who worked on the project until his death, along with David Austin, the film was Executive Produced by David Austin and it co-stars Stevie Wonder, Nile Rodgers, Elton John, Mark Ronson, Mary J Blige, Tony Bennett, Liam Gallagher, James Corden, Ricky Gervais, Kate Moss, the Freedom! ’90 video supermodels (Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patitz and Linda, the Evangelista). Thee film aired on Channel 4 earlier this month.
