(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Mr. Destiny, the promoter of Iceland’s biggest showcase festival, Ice Airwaves, has set up a new alternative music festival in Reykjavik in collaboration with Icelandair called the Rite of Spring festival, otherwise known as “Vorblót” in Icelandic.
The event will focus on cutting edge folk, jazz and world music with acts visiting from Brazil, UK, Serbia and Sweden, along with local Icelandic acts. The festival will take place in the NASA venue in downtown Reykjavik on April 27-30.
Acts confirmed for the first Rite of Spring festival include Icelandic pioneers and jazz-funksters Mezzoforte, Scottish/Latin American folk fusion Salsa Celtica, Serbian Gypsy band KAL, Brazilian bossa nova act Ife Tolentino, London-based reggae/ska/jazz/soul group 100% Dynamite and Nix Noltes Big Band.
International ticket sales are being handled by Icelandair, where packages including flights, hotel and festival tickets can be bought together, or separate music-only tickets can be purchased through Reykjavik record shops. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
