Jam Affiliate Buys Chicago’s Riviera Theatre

CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — An affiliate of concert promoter Jam Productions Ltd. has quietly purchased Chicago’s Riviera Theater.

Riviera Entertainment Properties LLC, managed by Jam partner’s Arny Granat and Jerry Mickelson, with the same address as Jam’s main officies, bought the 2,300-capacity theater for $3 million in March, according to property records, reports Crain’s Chicago Business.

Jam has gradually acquired clubs where it has long promoted shows, including ownership interests in the Park West nightclub and the Vic Theatre. The company has previously had lease agreements at the Riviera.

Jam’s purchase comes as the local concert promotions business has heated up, as Live Nation’s recent acquisition of House of Blues gives the promotions giant its first real mid-size venue in the city.

The Riviera Theatre was built as a Balaban & Katz movie palace in 1918.

Shows by Massive Attack, KT Tunstall, Snow Patrol, Sufjan Stevens , The Decemberists and others are on the books for the theater’s fall season. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
