Live Nation Pulls Out Of Gleason Theater Cirque Deal

MIAMI BEACH, FL (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Clear Channel and Live Nation are reportedly no longer involved with Cirque du Soleil in their proposal to develop Miami Beach’s Jackie Gleason Theater as a permanent venue for the human circus troupe.

Randy McElrath, regional director of Live Nation, told a city finance committee on August 17th that Live Nation would submit a proposal to compete with AEG Live for the management and operation of the theater, but had backed out of its plan to partner with Cirque to bring the Canadian acrobatic circus to the city.

The original Cirque du Soleil proposal faced a great deal of criticism because it would have required a significant taxpayer investment estimated at about $60 million. A redesigned development agreement is expected from the company.

The finance committee set a deadline of August 31st for the submission of all preliminary proposals to City Manager Jorge Gonzalez, with final proposals to be submitted by September 29th. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
