LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — The Mayor of London has put his stamp of approval on Chelsea Football Club’s plans for a massive new stadium on the site of the team's current stadium Stamford Bridge in the Fulham neighborhood of London.
According to the Financial Times, Mayor Sadiq Khan said the new 60,000-capacity stadium would be the “jewel in London’s sporting crown”.
Chelsea FC's plans for the new stadium would expand on the current facility's capacity of 41,000 by almost 20,000. The new stadium plans were designed by Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron and will cost an estimated £500m ($608 million) to construct.
“Having taken a balanced view of the application, I’m satisfied this is a high-quality and spectacular design which will significantly increase capacity within the existing site, as well as ensuring fans can have easy access from nearby transport connections,” said Mr Khan, per the Financial Times. – Staff Writers
