NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — A New York City teacher has been arrested after he allegedly crashed a drone into the stands during the U.S. Open tennis tournament Thursday night.
The Associated Press reported that Police have charged 26-year-old Daniel Verley with reckless endangerment and operating a drone in a New York City public park outside of prescribed area.
The crash occured during a second-round match between Italy's Flavia Pennetta and Monica Niculescu of Romania, when a black drone about the size of a shoebox flew over the court at Louis Armstrong Stadium and then crashed into a section of fortunately unoccupied seats.
The match was halted while police inspected the crashed aircraft.
Flavia Pennetta held her breath, suspecting that the drone was a bomb.
"With everything going on in the world … I thought, 'OK, it's over.' That's how things happen," she told the Associated Press. – Staff Writers
