NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — MTV Networks has undergone what is expected to be the first of many major changes, handing out pink slips to several senior-level executives as part of its recent move to cut 250 jobs.
The company has also shut down the MTV World linear channels superserving young multicultural viewers.
“Unfortunately, the premium distribution model for MTV World proved more challenging than we anticipated in this competitive environment,” the company said in a statement. “As a result, MTV has decided to shut down its linear MTV World operation. However, we remain steadfast in superserving multicultural youth, and we are continuing to investigate ways to integrate the MTV Desi, Chi and K brands online and on our other screens.”
The staff reductions at MTV Networks are being made with an eye on consolidating functions at the company. The cuts represent about 6% of MTV Networks’ global work force. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
