MANCHESTER, UK (CelebrityAccess) — Former Oasis star Noel Gallagher will headline "We Are Manchester" a benefit concert being planned to mark the re-opening of Manchester Arena.
Set for Sept. 9th, Gallagher's High Flying Birds will be joined by The Courteeners and Blossoms, Rick Astley, and poet Tony Walsh, with additional artists to be announced.
The arena has been closed for repairs since the deadly bombing attack outside of an Ariana Grande concert there on May 22nd, that left 22 people dead and dozens seriously injured.
"No-one will ever forget the terrible events of 22 May but Manchester has reacted with love, solidarity and a determination to continue doing the things which make this such a vibrant city. We welcome the reopening of the arena, a major venue which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, as a powerful symbol of this defiant and resilient spirit," Sue Murphy, deputy leader of Manchester City Council told the BBC.
All profits from the benefit concert will go towards the creation of a permanent memorial to the victims which will be built by the Manchester Memorial Fund.
