Radio 1's Top 40 Chart Moving To Friday

LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — After almost 50 years as a Sunday afternoon staple, the BBC's Radio 1's Top 40 chart show is moving to Friday afternoon.

Hosted by Greg James, the show will be trimmed from 3 to two hours for its new 4-6pm time slot, with the top 20 tracks for the week being played in full. The move comes against the backdrop of the international release date for recorded music being moved to Friday.

"The chart must feel like it's providing news, not just confirmation of something the listeners already knew," Greg James told the Radio Times. "It's a privilege to host it and even better that I don't have to work on Sundays."

The chart has been broadcast since 1967 with a listenership of around 1.2 million. – Staff Writers
