Security Ramped Up At Indian Festivals

GOA, India (CelebrityAccess) — Security at two electronic music festivals held annually in Goa, India, will be stepped up in light of the increased risk of ISIS inspired terrorism.

According to the Indo-Asian News Service, Goa Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar said that permission for the Sunburn Festival and the Supersonic Festival to proceed had been put on hold while organizers added additional security measures.

"We want the best security in view of the IS threat. The single window permission committee headed by the chief secretary which grants permission for such events has decided to ask the organizers of the events to increase security," Parulekar told IANS.

Additional security measures at the festival include more metal detectors and sniffer dogs capable of detecting explosive substances.

"The police will be there, but the organizers will also have to increase the security in view of the threat. The permissions will be granted once they comply with these conditions," Parulekar said. – Staff Writers
