SUNNYVALE, CA (Hypebot) – DRM technology provider Intertrust Technologies Corporation has acquired all the software and patents developed by SeeqPod via a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy proceeding.
However, Intertrust has not acquired the Seeqpod domain name. Seeqpod shut down its once popular music search-and-play site in 2009 after several major labels and rights holders filed lawsuits alleging copyright infringement.
The search algorithms in SeeqPod were originally developed for searching medical research databases at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories. According to Intertrust, they have broad applicability for identifying hidden patterns in data across the net, including indexing and finding playable search results for audio, video, podcasts and text.
“Intertrust plans to use SeeqPod’s breakthrough technology in distributed search systems in a variety of applications and services for Internet television, targeted advertising, recommendation systems, electronic music distribution and healthcare information services,” according to the press release.
