DES MOINES (CelebrityAccess) — The Val Air Ballroom, a longtime concert stage in West Des Moines, has been put up for sale.
According to the Des Moines Register, the venue's owner, Pedro Zamora, is seeking $2.6 million for the property.
Zamora told the Register that the property had been on the market for several months already but that they had only just begun to market it.
“We’re not desperate” to sell it, he said. “If something comes up, great. If not, we’ll keep operating it the way it is.”
Now nearly 80 years old, the 31,000-square-foot ballroom was enclosed and expanded in 1954 and may require some upgrades going forward.
Chris Cardani, a former manager of the ballroom, told the Register that he believes a complete overhaul of the venue would
“The electrical is old. The plumbing is getting bad,” he said. “It’s just to the point where it needs a bunch of money thrown into it.”
Originally opened in 1939, the venue has become a staple of the city's music scene, hosting concerts over the years ranging from Duke Ellington, Lawrence Welk, to Tech N9ne and Slipknot. – Staff Writers
