Broadway smash hit Wicked blew away the competition as the top theater attraction in 2005, according to statistics compiled by leading online premium tickets, TicketsNow. Now embarking on a nationwide tour of major cities, Wicked accounted for 27.9 percent of all Broadway tickets sold on TicketsNow.com. Wicked also finished first in statistics including all entertainment events (theater, sports, and concerts), with a 4.4 percent share.
Monty Python's Spamalot finished second in the theater ranking at 13.7 percent with The Lion King third at 9.5 percent.
Because TicketsNow is the largest single secondary market source of tickets to all entertainment events — listing some 2 million tickets on its site in any given day — the statistics provide a unique barometer on the comparative popularity of entertainment attractions.
