MADRID (CelebrityAccess) Spanish authorities have issued arrest warrants for Jose Miguel Arenas Beltran, a 24-year-old rapper because of his lyrics, and a composer.
Beltran and composer Palma de Mallorca, aka Vatonyc are being sought, according to a prosecutor’s statement, and the rapper has Spanish, European and international arrest warrants against him.
A court ruled that Beltran distributed songs online that praised terrorism, insulted Spanish royals and threatened a Spanish politician with violence, according to the Associated Press. In February, a Supreme Court rejected Beltran’s free speech argument. Valtronyc’s case became a cause celebre in Spain, according to the AP.
Beltran announced he would disobey the court summons to go to prison.
“Tomorrow they will knock down the door to my house to put me in prison. For a few songs,” the rapper wrote in a tweet on Wednesday. “I’m not going to make it so easy. Disobeying is legitimate and a must before this fascist state.”
He added that Spain was “once again making a fool of itself.”
Not all sympathized with him. The parliamentary spokesman for the pro-business Citizens Party tweeted, “Brave when breaking the law, cowardly when it’s time to accept the consequences.”
