FALLSVIEW, Ontario (CelebrityAccess) — Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation announced the selection of Connecticut-based Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment to operate the “Niagara Gaming Bundle” which includes Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara.
The “bundle” includes two key live entertainment venues in the market, a 1,500-seat theater at Fallsview, and an under-construction 5,000-seat theater which is set to open in the summer of 2019.
Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment will be responsible for the day-to-day gaming operations at the facilities, as well as booking for the entertainment venues.
“Selecting Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment is the latest step OLG is taking in our land-based gaming modernization, which is investing in communities and providing customers with new and exciting entertainment options,” said Stephen Rigby, OLG’s President, and CEO.
“By leveraging the success of the Niagara casinos and integrating with the wide mix of entertainment and tourist offerings in the area, MGE will help ensure the long-term competitiveness of the Niagara gaming market—particularly in relation to markets across the border,” Rigby added.
MGE faced stiff competition for the contract, beating out rivals Caesars Entertainment and Hard Rock International, who had also thrown their hats into the ring. As well, two Canadian operators had joined the early part of the competitive bidding process but dropped out early.
News of MGE’s Canadian expansion comes as the organization focuses on international expansion. They are preparing to break ground in a $5 billion dollar gaming and entertainment resort at Incheon Airport in South Korea and are currently engaged in a competitive bidding process for a casino license in Japan.
MGE also operates properties in Atlantic City, N.J., Wilkes Barre, PA, Marskville, LA, Ridgefield, WA, and their flagship in Uncasville, CT.
OLG is a crown agency that oversees gaming entertainment on behalf of the Province of Ontario.
