LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – The 2019 BET Awards were handed out Sunday night. Hosted by Regina Hall, the ceremony aired live from the Microsoft Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
Cardi B, who led this year’s nominations with seven nods going into the show, took home the awards for Album of The Year for her latest, Invasion of Privacy, and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. She also performed. Other awards went to Beyonce who was named Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Bruno Mars who won Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, and Childish Gambino, who did not attend the show, however, won Video of The Year for his song “This is America.”
The broadcast also featured live performances from Migos, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, DJ Khaled, Lizzo, Mustard, H.E.R., Lil Baby, City Girls’ Yung Miami, Lucky Daye and Kiana Lede, among others.
In addition, Tyler Perry gave a powerful speech as he was honored with the Ultimate Icon Award, and Mary J. Blige performed a show-stopping medley of hits after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. Grammy-nominated rapper, entrepreneur and community activist Nipsey Hussle was also honored posthumously with the Humanitarian Award.
