LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – Linda Lavin, the acclaimed actress celebrated for her role as Alice Hyatt in the beloved sitcom Alice, has passed away at the age of 87. She died on Sunday (December 29) in Los Angeles due to complications from recently discovered lung cancer.
Born on October 15, 1937, in Portland, Maine, Lavin’s early life was marked by her passion for the performing arts. She attended the University of Tulsa and later at the School of Performing Arts in New York City. Her dedication to theater led her to Broadway, where she earned a Tony Award in 1987 for her role in Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound.
In 1976, Lavin transitioned to television, starring as Alice Hyatt in the CBS sitcom Alice, which ran until 1985. Her portrayal of a single mother and waitress resonated with audiences.
Beyond her work on the TV show, Lavin’s television career included appearances in series such as The Sopranos, The Good Wife, and 9JKL. She also lent her voice to animated shows like Bob’s Burgers.
In recent years, Lavin continued to showcase her versatility, starring in the Netflix series No Good Deed, which premiered on December 4, 2024.
Lavin is survived by her husband, musician Steve Bakunas.
