MANCHESTER, UK (CelebrityAccess) — Seven people were injured after a ceiling collapsed at a nightclub in Manchester.
According to the Mirror, more than 850 club-goers were evacuated from FAC 251, also known as The Factory, in Manchester's city center early Sunday morning after a large section of the ceiling detached from its structural support.
"A section of plasterboard came loose from the first floor, at this stage we are uncertain how or why – no one was hurt & the club was evacuated purely as a precaution – there is no structural issue so we now need to investigate with contractors how this re-occurred, this issue relates to the first floor only. Ground & second floors will open as normal on Monday while we investigate the first-floor issue," said a rep for the club in a subsequent statement.
Photos of the incident show club patrons holding up what appeared to be a large piece of sheetrock amid a tangle of cabling, as people moved out from under it.
"We were all dancing and we just suddenly had this wooden ceiling panel fall on our heads,” clubber Tom Foster told Manchester Evening News. “As soon as the ceiling went all the lights smashed and fell on everyone. There was crying and screaming, we were just standing there holding it up, with half the room in darkness.” – Staff Writers
