ABC Cancels 'Nashville' After 4 Season Run

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Televised country music drama Nashville will be going off the air after a four-season run.

ABC revealed on Thursday that it was pulling the plug on the scripted television drama, which chronicles the lives of various fictitious country music singers in Nashville, Tennessee.

According to ABC News, the network's decision to end the series was not welcome news in the real Nashville, where the city's mayor, Megan Barry expressed her dismay.

"The show has been an enormously successful promotional tool for our city, which is why the state of Tennessee and metro Nashville were prepared to support production for a fifth season," Barry told ABC.

The show, which debuted in 2012, stars Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere as country music performers in various stages of their career. While ratings for the program had been soft in recent seasons, ABC had used the show as vehicle for numerous albums and television specials.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate, which produces the show, is in talks with other outlets about picking the show up. AEG's AXS TV acquired off-network cable rights to the show in 2015 and has been airing seasons 1-3 in rotation. – Staff Writers
