AEG Eyes Television

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — AEG has been in talks with several local Los Angeles television stations over a deal to create a digital channel that would carry live broadcasts of events at the Staples Center and the Nokia Theatre, Variety has reported.

The channel, which has dubbed "L.A. Live" will also carry a range of other content such as sports, fashion and travel events connected with AEG ventures. AEG hopes to capitalize on the expected proliferation of channels that will be sparked by the required February shift to all-digital broadcasting. The channel would then be able to run as a part of a digital multi-cast channel or by using excess bandwidth from a station not broadcasting in all high-def signals.

To support this effort, AEG has been hard at work constructing a brand new $20 million broadcast facility in the L.A. Live complex that would serve as the central locus for the television effort.

"We are committed to creating a lifestyle channel that would be about music and fashion and sports and point-of-destination travel. This lifestyle channel will have various means of distribution," Leiweke said told Variety "We’re very, very committed to (building) a big distribution opportunity here. Although (the channel) will not be solely focused on content from L.A. Live, it will be headquartered in Los Angeles." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
