American Folk Festival To Return Despite Budget Cut

BANGOR, ME (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Organizers of the American Folk Festival in Bangor have revealed the festival will be back this year but with $140,000 budget haircut.

The multi-stage festival will continue with the same three-day format and free admission that has proved popular with festival-goers in the past 8 years. This year however, the event will feature four stages instead of six and artists sets will be longer than they have been at past events.

The 2010 budget includes payments to help the festival to retire debt accrued in recent years. Organizers are working to pay back seed money that was provided by the City of Bangor in the early years of the Festival in order to make the Festival self-sustaining through grants, donations, and sponsorships.

The 2010 budget also includes a new safeguard: bad-weather insurance. Last year’s record downpour wiped out what has been the busiest and most financially important day of the event.
This year’s budget includes payment to protect the Festival from the kind of financial losses seen in 2009.

Organizers also said that the festival has taken steps to expand both the size and diversity of their vendor area as they look for additional ways to generate revenue.

The event is set to take place, per usual, from August 27-29 but a lineup and additional details are yet to be announced. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
