Bangor Ponders New Arena

BANGOR, Maine (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Consultants have proposed that the city of Bangor build a new $51 million dollar arena adjacent to the existing Bangor Auditorium.

According to the Bangor Daily News, consultants David Stone of ERA/AECOM and Don Dethlefs of Sink Combs Dethlefs Architects pitched their recommendations to the city council and arena implementation committee members after conducting market and feasibility studies.

The proposed U-shaped arena would have a capacity of 5,000 and would be built adjacent to the existing auditorium which would then be refurbished to provide more options for events and civic functions. Renovations to the existing auditorium were estimated to cost an additional $18 million.

Funding for the project is still something that needs to be hammered out. At present, the only source of funding identified so far is from Hollywood Slots, Bangor's hotel and race and slot machine casino which the city finance director reports has earned the city approximately 5.5 million as of June 30th.

City councilors seemed impressed with the presentation the Bangor Daily News reported.

"You’ve given us a lot to chew on," City Council Chairman Gerry Palmer said. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
