Big Day Out Not As Big As It Used To Be

SYDNEY (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Organizers of the popular Australian touring festival Big Day Out have been forced to cut a number of headliners and even some stages to keep the event viable.

According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, both Kanye West has been nixed from the Auckland, Adelaide and Perth editions of the festival. Odd Future has also been cut from the Auckland event and The Living End and Mariachi El Bronx have been pulled from the Adelaide line-up.

The Auckland Big Day Out is also losing one of their two main stages and the Perth BDO is being relocated from the Claremont Showgrounds to new digs at the smaller Lathlain Park.

"We are not just moving the show to a more suitable venue but the entire design," Big Day Out creator Ken West said in a written statement. "For our 20th year we have chosen to rebuild the Perth event from the ground up, with a goal to recapturing the magic of early Big Day Out shows. Triggered by the need to change venues and the limited space available at our new site we have decided to look back to see the future for BDO."

New Zealand Big Day Out promoter Campbell Smith offered additional insight to the New Zealand press, saying, "The changes are vital for us to hold the show in Auckland."

Due to the changes, ticket prices are being reduced, and people who've already purchased tickets are being offered a 20% discount or an exchange for tickets to the Sydney, Melbourne or Gold Coast BDOs. Organizers have also added attractions such as a water slide and a skate tent. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
