TUCSON, AZ (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Although a $13 million restoration of the Fox Theatre is not quite finished, a grand opening is planned for New Year’s Eve, and events are being scheduled after that.
Bruce Hornsby will play a solo show New Year’s Eve. The show, dubbed Midnight at the Fox, will also be a fund-raiser for the theater, said Herb Stratford, executive director of the Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation.
According to the Tucson Citizen, most major components of the theater’s restoration have been completed, Stratford said.
“It’s moving, and it’s still on track. We’re going to make it by New Year’s. That’s the good news. The bad news is, we’re working 14 hours a day, seven days a week,” Stratford said jokingly.
The restoration of the distinctive Southwestern art deco ceiling was completed about three weeks ago. Painting, carpeting, fixtures and installation of seats remain, Stratford said.
Money for the restoration came from a number of sources: $3.5 million from the Rio Nuevo Multipurpose District; $2.8 million in federal tax credits; a $5.6 million, 15-year loan from the city and private donations.
